If it is a US Cent then it is worth $0.05....unless it is in really high grade.
    A photo might help.

Would you have any idea as to the count of "1942" Pennies?...is that a rare year for a Penny?

That is not considered a rare year. The three 1942 penny's mint quantity are:

    1942: 657,828,600
    1942-D: 206,698,000
    1942-S: 85,590,000

    1942 Penny

Thats all understandable, but the fact stiil remain that the "die" from the mint was errored there for leaving indentation upon the coins.I`ve read about this in the past and since then Its seems to be on the hush hush..I have the "42 copper & a good real Steel "43" with an indentation at the top of his head. Its almost like It was intended to have a hole drilled through the coin. Its not deap at all,but you can tell.

do you have photos? Maybe we are missing something. I can't imagine what would cause a defect like that to be "hush, hush"; Quite the opposite in fact, if it was a great rarity it would be proclaimed throughout the market to increase its price when it is offered at auction. The fact that there is no info about this particular oddity likely means that it is relatively common. But hey, I've been wrong before...

If the coins have extreme wear, yes they are removed from circulation. But if they are not, they are returned to circulation. No they do not keep count of them.

I google searched and found this thread, so I had to register an account. I have a 1942 copper penny with a hole drilled the entire way through the top of it. It just looked to me like someone was trying to make a necklace out of pennies, but who knows?

I scanned both sides of the coin against some white paper.
