ANS - American Numismatic Society

It's an organization you hear less about than some others, but that doesn't diminish its importance. The ANS has been around since 1858 and is dedicated to the furtherance of knowledge in the field of numismatics. Their mission statement -

"The mission of the American Numismatic Society is to be the preeminent national institution advancing the study and appreciation of coins, medals and related objects of all cultures as historical and artistic documents, by maintaining the foremost numismatic collection and library, by supporting scholarly research and publications, and by sponsoring educational and interpretive programs for diverse audiences."

ANS Bibliography

This web site allows you to search the entire bibliography of the American Numismatic Association. Now you may not think that would be very useful, but if you are doing research on a given numismatic subject there are few things that are more useful.

ANS Archives

Once you know where you want to research, what document (which you were able to find in the bibliography), then you need to search the ANS archives. This web page will you how to go about that.

ANA - American Numismatic Association

Want to know a dealer you can trust in your area or an area you will be visiting ? Then consult the Dealer Directory. Want to read a book that you can't find ? Then borrow it from the ANA Library. Want to learn how to properly grade coins or detect counterfeits ? Then take an ANA Home Study Course or attend a seminar.

These benefits and much more is available to members of the ANA. Even non members can learn a great deal and make use of the ANA web site. I urge you to visit it.
