I was considering getting the Dansco #7070 Coin Album For U.S. Type Coins, but had a couple of questions for those who have it. One, I'm not sure if I'd get the Gold Page, as it seems rather expensive to put together a gold set and I'm not breaking the ones I have out of slabs for the album.

More importantly, is there any protection (plastic?) or do you just press the coins in? It almost looks like (from the pictures) that there's an insert (slid in from the side?), as the front of the pages look bumped, but I can't tell. Maybe not.

I like the front and back view, but don't think i's what I'm looking for if there's no protection.

The pages do have the plastic sheets that slide in over the front and back of each coin. I thought about the gold page but don't know if i could ever fill it so I'll get it if/when I fill the rest of the album. I am working on this album with coins in circulated grades and have a Capital Plastics holder for a 20th century type set in uncirculated/proof condition.

As for the OP, the 7070 is a great set to put together! It has some challenging coins, but nothing impossible. Even in uncirculated condition there are only a handful of coins with $1000 price tags, plus you can pick whatever condition suits you for each coin. I am doing mine in VF/XF+, but holed condition. I have a few fillers that I am still upgrading, but I'm getting close. With VF+ details I get all the advantages of seeing all the cool designs plus with the holes I am able to avoid paying the big prices that my limited buget couldn't afford. Plus I think the holes make the coins interesting!

I just realized something. the 7070 doesn't seem to have a spot for some type coins. I haven't gotten the album yet (in the mail) and am just looking online at pictures of the pages and can't clearly see the dates on the pages, but... Seems they have three spots for liberty seated quarters (no motto, arrows, motto), but not one spot for my 1794 Liberty Cap Large cent!? Earliest large cent spot seems to be Draped Bust (1796-1807).

Nothing for flowing hair either, though I don't have any heh so that's not a huge problem at the moment I guess some coins wouldn't be put in this type of album regardless, but my 1794 Liberty Cap could have gone in here (and isn't the most expensive coin that I'd put in here, unless this album really isn't suited for > $100 coins.

It will expand my want list, though I suppose that would happen eventually anyhow. For example, a 1909 VDB (to me) would cover the type of Lincoln wheatbacks, but I think they have two places for them. Same with Liberty seated quarters (which I actually have arrows and no arrows, but if I didn't, I'd question whether to get both). I suppose I don't have to fill what I don't want to fill, but that's the kinda thing that bugs ya'.

I'll get it, seems it's only $31 with the slip case, which isn't too terrible. Better than my 2x2 flip system (said loosly) I have now. Thanks.
