National dealer

Well collectors, this is our latest find. It was picked up this morning at a local flea market. It is an 1830's Hard Times Token. The theme is depicting Andrew Jackson and his administration. Pretty neat. Cleaned and grading VF, it was bought for $2.50
The gentlemen selling the item thought it was just a junk piece of medal.

So in your travels, don't overlook that flea markets, pawn shops, and antique stores.

You never know what you will find if you are looking...

Very nice, indeed.
It is listed by Rulau, as HT-70, Rarity-1.
It is from the year 1833.
Interestingly, cleaning does not carry the same stigma among token collectors, as it does with coin collectors.
Cleaned, holed and slightly damaged tokens are still considered very collectable.

That is a great find. I don't often go to these types of events - or even to garage sales, but I understand they're a right source of numismatic treasures. I'll have to spend some time giving this a try. I'll post any interesting results.

Well at $2.50 this is one of our greatest finds this year.
Most collectors never think of where the coins are. Everyone in America has coins in our possession. So don't overlook anyplace.
The little old lady selling her collectables in her front yard may yield better results than the local coin shop.
Don't be afraid to ask the vendors at flea markets for any coins that may be available. You never know what these people have.

Remember, don't keep your hobby a secret.

Found a 1922 plain cent at antiques shop for 0.45. Did not know what it was, so I didn't get it. After I got home n checked redbook I went back the next day. After I told the guy about it he went and opened the case and decided he would "help" me look for it. Needless to say this time it was not in there and the coins were still in the exact order I placed them back in the bowl. Checked through it twice. Pretty sure he slight of handed it to himself as he mentioned he used to collect coins. Same thing also happened to me w/08 rev 07 eagle at local coin shop. Had one in my hand and thought it was weakly struck so I didn't get it. Checked internet and went back and was talking about error as I was going through them, asking 4 more to look at took kid a long time to come back. Didn't find another. Went back the next day because I realized they had some in the birthyear holders. He smiled when I came in and asked to see them and said they already took out the error ones. Live and learn, now I NEVER TALK SPECIFICS.
