| expensive 2004 nickel medal government rolls
what's with the stupid high prices of the 2004 medal nickel (packed by u.s. mint) rolls? the 2004 (packaged by u.s. mint) keelboat rolls are like 1/6th the price of the medals?
also the 2003 nickel rolls are pretty expensive as well... (same or more expensive than the 2004 keelboats)
i have the 2005 p & d buffalo and ocean view u.s. mint rolls and just wanted to complete my little set with the p & d 2004 rolls and 2003 rolls (then the 2006 rolls so i can have the first year of the new nickel design)... but the 2005 medal rolls cost is like equal (or more) to the entire 2005 and 2003 with the 2004 keelboat rolls combined...

There is nothing special and no particular reason. It is simply supply and demand.

I find that funny... if you want a full roll of keelboats, buffaloes, ocean in view, or whatever, and don't mind that they're rolled by an armored car company rahter than somebody who's licensed to stick a US mint logo on it, I can get you one for $2 plus shipping. I got a full roll of buffaloes from my bank, took 4 out for my collection, and spent the rest. These are nice looking, but not rare by any stretch of the imagination. I don't get why people put so much stock in the US mint logo, or having 40 of the exact same coin wrapped in a piece of paper, but that's their perogative I guess.

| Because you are paying for the paper, not the coins. Sure the coins are the same but the coins you get from the bank aren't (cue fan fair music) "MINT ROLLS"! (cut music)
That peace meadl roll set is worth $102. . . until you tear the paper/open the roll. Then it is worth $2. The extra $100 is the paper. I don't collect paper so the bank roll works fine for me.

I'm just sorry I missed the hype! I looked at the mint web site in Oct 2004 to buy some year sets for my kids for Christmas but desided to wait a few weeks! I had kind of had a lul in coin collecting for a year or so and wasn't paying attention to what was happening in the hobby. Missed the Peace medal rolls and mint sets only got 2 proof sets, 2 sets of Keelboat rolls and 2 Westward nickel sets from the mint everything else was sold out. Went to ebay and bought some 2004 mint sets for under $30 each.
I'm now selling all the 2004 stuff! I agree with Speedy this is pure hype. Other than the fact that the 2004 Peace nickel has a Double Die and the only absolute sure way to know your getting unsearched rolls is to get a original mint sealed box of rolls (although the bank wrapped most likely would be original)?
I was't going to miss the hype this year and bought everything I could from the mint and just hope I get a little more than what I paid for them to make it worth my time? Been disappointed in the Bison roll prices so far!
What is driving me crazy is all these so called 'errors' showing up on ebay!
Detached leg, speared bison, bald bison, Broken tomahawk, snot noised Jefferson, bearded Jefferson, etc, etc, etc...... CRAZY!

Error coins are becoming a big thing at the coin shows I've been going to lately. That's about the only thing all these new nickels are worth looking for. I wish everyone would remember the Bi-Centenial craze. I was one of the dummies that ran out and bought many rolls of them. One friend of mine and all his family saved everyone they could find. They ended up with thousands of dollars worth. Now they, and so am I, spending them as regular, ordinary change. Could have made more investing in $3 bills or buggy whips. There are just to many people saving brand new nickels by the roll. I did the go to a bank, buy a roll, take out 4 for Whitman Classic Folder sets and spent the rest. However, if those rolls are saved for a few hundred years, they may be worth double face value.
