Here is part of my email to Pres. Bush: The main point of my email is to encourage you to veto the Presidential Dollar Coin Act that just passed the Senate. The dollar coin has not circulated well, and Rep. Castle seems to think that a repeat of his rotating design legislation (as with the 50 state quarters) would make the dollar coin circulate. On the surface it sounds nice, but the State Quarter program is not nearly as popular as it was because it's so long, 10 years. This one would take 11 years and the designs would not change as drastically as the quarter programs. It's not like little Tommy form Texas is going to be waiting in line for a Polk or a Taylor. It just doesn't have the appeal of a Mark McGuire rookie, ya know? The founders and even most presidents, besides Clinton wouldn't want their faces on our coinage, like the Kings and Emperors of the past. Let's have a rotating design program that lasts 4 years that has symbols of liberty and American ingenuity or something. Let's have coins with images illustrating parts of our Constitution or Bill Of Rights. |
