Thanks everyone I think I did a pretty good job at picking out coins that looked "new".

If I gave a coin related gift to my mom, I don't think she would like it very much, and make that really any member of my family, except for my grandparents, I guess it would kind of be weird though, getting a gift of something you are not a part of, like coin collecting.

I talked to my wife extensively before assembling this set, and she is sure he will love it. She told me he had quite a few coins from his birth year but they were stolen a long time ago. Plus, I'm sure he is sick of the typical shirt and tie, and he's not much with tech gifts, although probably better than most 72 year old people.
