This doesn't help you with the suggestions you asked for.
But I will offer you one: Spend a LOT of time planning how you want it to operate.
Make test page formats, show them in here and get comments.
Then make decisive decisions based on those comments. Don't keep second guessing yourself otherwise it'll take forever to get the website put together.
Get it right the first time.
Redoing it because you didn't think ahead well enough is a REAL pain. I'm talking from experience.
