An example would be, I'd list brand names of GPS units I have and tell peeps to PM me with models they'd be interested in and then I'd message them back and let them know what I have on their list, or alternatives if I don't have what they're looking for, then we can work out trading or price.
I think it can work but I don't know if Peter wants to open that can of worms?

Ps: I just sold a Garmin NUVI 780 to a really good friend yesterday for $100. See if you can find it on Ebay for that price? I always cut friends a better deal than "strangers" I don't know. |

We allready get that from some folks. They join and rattle off 10 posts as quick as possible... just so they can advertise as much as possible ... and then they disappear. Seeing that is anoying as it is. Making the forum the next internet flea market would not help the forum grow, or foster the discussions we allready have.
Not that i get your point though. Some time ago, i wanted to do what you are suggesting - I wanted to list non numismatic material. I was going to give it away free and only charge actual shipping. I just wanted to see the item go to someone instead of throwing it away. Then i found out i couldnt. Ok, so i threw the item out.
As much as i see how it might help some folks do what i wanted... get rid of an item they no longer want, for an item they do. But what happens when the item being sold, say a stereo, doesnt work... who is the mediator? Do we then kick the wrong doer of a seller out of the forum for selling a busted stereo? Or do we kick out the buyer becuase they broke the stereo after recieving it because they didnt like the color?? How would a dispute like that be settled?
I just think the open section is a geat place to exchange unwanted items for wanted items. The Coins and currency limitations, while allows the spread of numismatics, keeps the section in line with the purpose of the forum. |
I see both sides of this from a neutal position.
If I were the owner of this site, I would thank you for the suggestion, however, I would pass.
On the viewpoint you see, I think it would open areas that may or may not be of interest to the genral member population.
This Place is called Coin Talk, not Coin Swap.
I do not disagree with you and I like the idea somewhat..but feel strongly that it would not belong here. Ebay has done enough of that marketing already!
