CoinTalk has put me into contact with collectors/dealers who have provided endless education. In this hobby I believe that education is the key.
In a way it has affected how I collect as well. I've become more picky, and for the past year haven't bought as many coins as I did the first few years of collecting. I think alot of that has to do with needing to save for other parts in life, but it also has to do where I'm not buying every coin that I see, but saving for the big ones that will fill a spot in my collection.
My collection isn't the best...or close to it, but the guy that built that Richmond Collection said something that I would agree with....."I didn't buy the best there was, but the best I could afford."
