Yeah it's a fun hobby, nothing most people could ever earn a living at (unless you live in florida-beach jewelery) I usally find my places to hunt one of two ways. Either I go to the library, find some books on the areas history - always plentiful - and start matching old photos with new places. You would be surprised how many empty fields or new constuction sites used to be places where people hang out. These coins were found in a field not even a fifty feet from where they are building a new mini-mart and office complex. In about 2-3 weeks the spot where these were found will be under blacktop and never accesable again. The other way I find spots...get in the car on a weekend morning and just start driving in the country looking for abandoned homesites, farmhouses and the like. Construction sites in little towns and villages are usually pretty promising but I have found 1800's coins in the middle of the woods.(just because there are trees there now dosen't mean there was 100+ years ago!) Contrary to popular belive most people will give you permission to hunt their land (always ask!) if your upfront and honest about your intentions. This is my main hunting season before the ground gets too hard from them long southern sunny days. It can be an expensive hobby with the cost of some of the better detectors, but for me the thrill is more in the hunt and not the find.
