"Barter to Euro - The Story of Coinage"

"This project traces the development of coinage in Europe from its invention in Greece over 2,500 years to the introduction of the new Euro coins. Drawing on the Hunterian Collection, it includes coins from ancient Greece and Rome through to medieval and modern Europe."

Clicking on the picture of each coin leads to information about that particular coin. There are two sets of links that can be followed each with different results.
