The S-74 has a double leaf under O in OF, your coin does not. The only possible variety your coins resembles is S76, and it appears to be missing a lot of detail. The mushy details, porous look,...

Where did you buy it from and how much did you pay? I ask about price because if it is a fake it still has some value.
I am sure others will be along to chime in, but there appears to be berries...

Sorry to say, but I am pretty sure you have a cast counterfeit. There are a lot of missing berries on the reverse, in addition to the reverse having a porous look common on cast coins.

I like that one too :) Color can be tough to judge in pictures, but the 52 looks a lot more natural than the 47. See how the worn portions of the coronet have a different color than the protected...

Very nice, that's an N13 with the heavy die crack through MER on the reverse. You can compare the detils inside and outside the crack and see they shifted quite a bit, it's basically a retained cud....

Nice coins, especially the 1847.
I would grade the 47 as 25 net 20 for nicks although I could see others saying 20 net 15. The 54 would be 20 net 10 for corrosion. As such I think the value on...

Wonderful coin, I love all the die clash marks and swelling on the obverse!!!

Welcome and congratulations on your first coin. Pick up a copy of the redbook, you can also get ballpark values here:

I would not send that coin in for...

Why would you not be able to find any, apmex has 1 oz bars for $40 over spot.
-
Just a note, but that is not wear, it is corrosion. A coin with that much wear but without the corrosion would be identifiable.

To add to Marshall's point a little. The types of mint error that your coin could have (planchet lamination/flaws), although I think it's PMD, would also detract from the value of the coin. For...

That's crazy money for a Warhol, but then again people think I spend crazy money on pennies :)

Basically any MS60 to MS63 large cent is really an AU coin with obvious wear. I have a MS 62 NGC 1853 large cent which has obvious recoloring as well. The thing is, all the TPGs use market grading...

So true, and it affects the price a great deal. I have seem S-178s in good condition but without the single leaf on the right stem visible sell for much less than the same condition coin with that...

I have had the same experience medoraman.
The local weekly coin auction is done by an auctioneer who has a relationship with the local coin shop. All the coins sold at auction come from that...

This is not a clip, and it is not an 1839/6.
On real clips, the radius of the clip matches the radius of the coin, the radius of this 'clip' is much bigger than the radius of the coin. ...

Very interesting, I think mine is in the $2 - $3 range :)
-
In Sheldon's book on large cents he separates out collectable varieties from non-collectable variates as those with 3 or more available to collectors vs those with <3 available. So for instance if...
-
In addition to the previously mentioned Blakesley Effect, the clip should have the same radius as the coin itself.
-
Great coin Marshall!!! I have a few like that as well, although no 97 NC5!
This is the fundamental difference between variety collectors and non-variety collectors. For people who collect...

if the DNA worked on the Penny then I assume the residue was from a glue. But if that's the case I think many solvents would have worked as well. I am with Doug here, just get the xylene and use it...

Most likely yes, they would. They should broadly speaking by negatively correlated to real growth.

In regards to the Mumps obverse coin, yes there are three different varieties if memory serves, they are s246, s247, and s248. Again, from memory they were all struck with the same obverse die, but...

I lost my copy of the price guide, but I don't see anything obvious. Here is a 65 from heritage, same federal reserve which sold for ~ $600:
