    The Russians had some good pilots but the aircraft that they flew in the beginning of the war was quite inferior to what the Germans flew. The reason some of those pilots scored so many kills was that they were constantly in action. American pilots were rotated out of action on a regular basis. Maj. Bong was rotated back home near the end of the war otherwise he no doubt would have added more to his record. He died test flying a P-80 on the day that the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Mcguire died in action over the Phillippines in January '45.
