    Hey Mike,
Sorry to say, I don't think I'll be able to make it to the show. I've had some plans for quite awhile that just so happen to fall right on the weekend of the show. I've been to nearly every other show in my area this year already, and as much as I love the Long Beach Coin Expo's, I just don't think I'll be able to find the time... Hope to see many of your displays at other upcoming shows this year!

    Take Care,
    Brian

Oh, alright! I'd love to see it in Long Beach this September! Very much looking forward to it. After further reviewing me schedule, it is possible that I will be able to make it to the Ontario Show on Friday when the doors open. Though, I suppose it doesn't matter since you won't be there with your fantastic set. Guess I'll just have to be patient until the LB show in September!

    Thanks for Sharing,
    Brian

Hey, Illini! Had you planned on attending the Ontario Coin Show this weekend? If so, have you decide what (if any) set you will be displaying? I'd love to hear!

    Take Care,
    Brian

Vacation & Bid Boards January 2012

by illini420 on 02-09-2012 at 04:49 AM
Hello there! Looks like it's been over a month since I last posted so I figured it was time to post an update.

Over the Holidays, I visited my family in Maui. Was a great trip and while there I even stopped by one of the island's coin shops. Most of the coins seemed overpriced or average, but there was a 1947 Philippines General MacArthur set that really caught my eye:

Bid Boards 11/29/11 & 12/3/11

by illini420 on 12-06-2011 at 01:43 AM
Again, took a little break from the coin circuit. Had a nice trip to Texas to visit with some family over the Thanksgiving holiday. Hope you all had a nice Holiday as well.

Now that I'm back in SoCal, I'm back to hunting down some cool coins. Last week, I was pretty successful in finding some nice stuff at the local bid boards.

The coolest item I was able to get was a 1923 BU Peace Dollar which was counterstamped for the Sept. 5-17, 1978 Camp David Peace Summit between

Bid Boards 11/8/11 & 11/12/11

by illini420 on 11-14-2011 at 07:54 PM
Been a couple of weeks without a blog post. I took a week off from the local bid boards so there just wasn't much to post. However, I was make it to the shops this past week.

On the bid boards this week I noticed quite a bit of Morgan Dollars. Most of them seem to be AU or lower MS grades, MS60-63 for the most part. I'm not really that into Morgans so I don't spend too much time looking at them, but I'll sometimes buy them if they're offered at near silver melt prices and/or if

Bid Board 10/25/11

by illini420 on 11-01-2011 at 02:31 AM
I wasn't able to make it to the bid board this weekend since I decided to go down to the Stacks/Bowers offices in Irvine to do some lot viewing for the upcoming November Baltimore auction. There were some items in the online catalog that were not imaged, mostly bulk lots, and for those types of lots you really need to see the items in hand before bidding. I'm glad they auction houses offer lot viewing here in SoCal for us collectors who don't travel across country for a coin show. I saw several

Glendale Coin Club Coin Show 10/23/11

by illini420 on 10-26-2011 at 01:16 AM
I arrived at the show a couple hours before it opened to the public in order to help set up. Set up went pretty smoothly and we had power run to all of the dealer tables well before opening. In total, 29 dealers were at the show and after opening to the public at 10am the show was fairly busy throughout the day. Seemed like the public really came out for the show. I'm sure the youth auction and the gold & silver coin raffle drew in some of the crowd to the show as well.
