This is Kirsten. My dad is the sodbuster. Today we looked at a box of nickels. I collect the nickels. We found:
    1 x silver 45p
    2 x prewar
    several late 1940's
    and 1 1920 buffalo nickel!

Dad searched 2 rolls and 16 loose halves. But did not find anything.

I live in Fort Mill, SC just south of Charlotte, NC. I've been driving to everywhere in a 50 mile radius. It's really funny how some tellers are annoyed at my asking while others are excited to get rid of their coins.

Yesterday I picked up another 10 40%ers and 2 1964 Kennedys as well as my first ever proofs..a 1983, 1992, and 2006. Also got a US mint roll of 2001 P half dollars. This is just awesome! :)

Question...with the proofs, how do I tell if they are silver or just copper/zinc? They all have the S mintmark, so what's the difference?

Some recent finds in cent rolls were a 1971 British new penny and an AU Bahama cent.

Well it was a pretty good day half hunting at the sodbuster residence!

I found a box and 20 rolls to search.

First, I hunted the 20 rolls:
    9 x 64
    25 x 40%
    1 x 1975 Mexican Peso

Nearly ever roll had at least one silver, and one roll by itself had seven 64s and 13 40%... that's right, an entire ROLL of silver. Quite fortunate, I thought.

Then I started in on the box. In the first seventeen rolls I found two more 40% and a 51s Franklin. But the remaining 33 rolls were solid Uncirculated 1998d, AGAIN!

I've heard one can get a premium on Ebay for those uncirculated rolls. Since I have over a box and a half of them, I think I'll test the waters.

Quite a haul! I told Mrs. Sodbuster that perhaps it wasn't such a waste of time to search rolls if you occasionally find a $10 face roll with $90 worth of silver in it!

Quite a few of the 64 though 66 were uncirculated condition, too. :thumb:

I think I'll stick with it

This is why I love roll searching!!! Finds like Victor's just amaze me.
Congrats on the amazing haul! Sorry you missed out on the other silver dollars, but at least you got 5. Love the Stone Mountain commemerative; my grandmother gave me 2 of those at a young age which got me very interested in commerative halves.
Continued good luck in the searching!

Got 3 boxes of halves this weekend:

Box one: No silver. No nothin

Box two: No silver. But, found a 1976s proof (clad, not a 40%er), and a 1982 no FG error. :)

Box three: 5 40%ers, a 2nd 76s proof (clad) and a 71s proof, a struck through error with half the eagle is flat (at least that is what I think....I'll post a pic in the error forum tomorrow). 2 2004 and a 2003.

I also found 30 dollars in lose halves.........I describe in next post.

    A roll searcher's dream

Among the lose halves I found were two rolls of customer rolled halves. When I slid them out, I saw what we all dream about ............all silver edges.

After catching my breath, I looked and every coin was a 1964 d Kennedy. They must have been in this paper since then as the edges of the coin were dingy as were the sides of the coins that were touching the paper. The rest of the coins (including the opposite side of the coin touching the paper) looked MS to me. So, they were all MS or at worst AU.

    40 of them. I had a great day!!!! :D :D :D

I stopped by the bank friday and picked up $100.00 worth of halves that were customer rolled. I also bought whatever the tellers had in their trays, which amounted to about 25 bucks worth.

Well the rolled halves were a complete bust. No silver or errors. I suspect that I wound up in someone's dump bank.

But on the coins from the trays, I found 6 40%ers and 1 90%er. That made the trip worthwhile.

Are you kidding? I've never gotten 20 wheats in the same box, let alone a WAM.

Over the past couple of days, I did a penny and a nickel box.

I got a load of D formatives (which I'd gladly trade for the wheats).
Six wheats (nothing before 1941) and one Canadian.

Nickels: Four silver war nickels and three prewar, but none of the harder dates. My daughter's Jefferson set lacks 24 coins, now, all from 50's & earlier.
