Looks like a Spanish Cob, but I'm no expert. http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinText/Sp-Cobs.1.html Or more likely a one real mexico
Looks like a spanish "piece of eight", which was one of the currency used before the dollar and is related to the dollar. Nice find
No idea, I'm not a specialist on these type of coins. It could only be worth 10 or 15 dollars, but potentially alot more I Think. It depends on the type I think
I found the coin, look http://cgi.ebay.com/SCARCE-1659-SPA...Domain_0?hash=item5acf9d4836#ebayphotohosting
Nice find and coin but the odds are against you that it is real! I have and thousands of others have metal detected the beaches in Key West and I do not know of anyone finding a Spanish 8 Reale piece there. Now, if you were on a very remote beach, it might be possible as I have seen some that came out of Sand Dunes in Upper Keys. I suspect that it may be a Reproduction that someone had with them when they were at the beach and they lost it. There are a lot of Reproductions that can be purchased in Key West and many other stores in the Keys. Frank
Its meant to be a Spanish colonial cob, looks like 4 reales, can't tell which mint. But it is most certainly fake. Apparently people find these on Floridian beaches every so often. Imagine a silver coin from 1659 rolling around in the sand and salt water for who knows how long, and still have that degree of detail. Not likely.
