In your opinion, what is the most overrated coin collected by regular coin collectors? Well, lets not say overrated, but over collected. I'm not talking about people that buy the state quarter set and think it'll be worth a badrillion dollars someday, I am talking about us regular collectors. What, among what we collect, is the most overrated amongst us? stainless
i don't know about over rated but over collected ......Morgan but i understand why i have a little Morgan collection myself
Most over-rated coin? How can that question be answered without offending the poor misguided soul who collects these over-rated coins?
Well, IMHO two coins in that category would be the 1844 dime, or the 1909 s-vdb cent. Both are avidly sought coins, but are not rare, and very much overhyped. Those are true "common rarities" in my opinion.
Easy peesy... ASE's. Why some people pay hundreds of dollars for a $13 "MS70" silver round of bullion, that never has or never will see circulation, is beyond me. Although technically it's not a coin.
This is a remarkably difficult question to answer. What is too much? Personally, I think all US coins are over collected. But shouldn't everyone have an opportunity to collect? I also think that conditional rarity does not necessarily equate with real rarity - I'll take a unique coin over a coin in a unique grade any day. The word 'rarity' itself is relative. You may consider a 1916-D dime rare with a mintage of around 400,000, while in the copper series of Newfoundland, mintage like this are common and the coins are still available for under $20.
Gotta give it to the Mexicans, they can get Libertad right on their onzas. Feminine, like women are supposed to be!
You know, I've thought and thought about this question, and I'm still indescisive. Do you mean as in a coin series.....I've always thought Morgans, Lincolns, and anything to do with Barber were way over collected. Or, do you mean a single coin....the 09 s vdb started to stand out, because anyone who's ever collected US coins has at one time strived for, and some owned, this coin, which at first glance makes it seem over-collected....but when you remember there are tens of millions of US coin collectors just in the US alone, and only less than half a million 09 s vdb's, it's hard to classify this coin as over-collected, or else everyone who ever wanted one would have one. I'm really at a deadlock as far as deciding how to answer this question. I do agree with the most over-hyped observation being placed on ASE's. That was a no-brainer. Guy~
Almost like asking what underarm deodorant ( if any) one uses~~ very personal question and answer. But in the new CW magazine " PCGS MS69 FIRST STRIKE 2009 Chinese Silver Panda". How in the #$#@ does PCGS know they were first strikes? Because the Chinese said so? Pretty coin, but I use to buy pandas ( silver and gold) as bullion....times they are achanging ( again). Old Jim
