Wexler: 1972 1¢ WDDO-004 Description: A close Class I CCW spread shows on IGWT. Doubling also shows on the lower LIB of LIBERTY and the 2. Obverse Stage B: A rim cud (die break) shows to the left of the L of LIBERTY. Unfortunately, my microscope only takes photos to 250x, so I can't pickup the die scratches, or die grove either, but heres what the reverse states: Reverse Stage A:Three nearly parallel die scratches extend SW from the bottom of the N in UNITED. A short, vertical die gouge can be found inside the upper N of UNITED. A die scratch connects the centers of the A and T of STATES. Numerous die scratches run west to east above and below the Memorial. Values: A PCGS AU58 specimen of this variety sold at a Teletrade auction for $2,990. The sale took place on Sunday, March 11, 2012 and the final price realized includes a 15% buyer's premium charged by Teletrade. Comments: This doubled die variety has proven to be very rare. It has been suggested that the rims cuds, especially those seen on Stage C, may be evidence that the obverse die deteriorated rapidly and fell far short of a normal die run. Additional evidence that this variety had a very short die run comes in the fact that the several different stages of the reverse die for this variety can be found without the doubled obverse die.
Do you have pics of the reverse, specifically UNITED? I don't think it is die 4. The doubling, specifically in GOD, does not match. Also compare WE to the doubled die. Yours is skinny and not doubled. The real DDO shows a spread to the east in the motto. And if the doubling doesn't match, well, then it can't be that DDO.
Well, my main photo was to catch the cud on the rim, that the biggest thing with this DDO, its going to wexler the first of the month, I wish I could of got the die scratches, and die grove, I'll try again tomorrow, but very hard to get with my kind of microscope, especially as small has they are
just tring to show the coin off, and see what everyone thinks, and hopefully people to help me take better photos too, always open for comments
Again, not sure how many times I have to say it, but die markers mean nothing if the doubling doesn't match. Your doubling doesn't match. Let's do a little comparison here. Now Rick, be honest...does the doubling match in the photos I have attached?
Coppercoins.com also has staging for the DDRs. That photo was taken for the mid-die state, which also has the presence of rim cuds on the coin. The point I am trying to make is that the doubling doesn't appear match, and I honestly think that retaking the photos will not change that. By the way...you didn't answer the question. Even though coppercoins is just as reliable as wexler's doubleddie.com, I went ahead and made another comparison. Again, you should note that the doubling does not match.
The thing about blasting light on a coin is that it creates massive glare and really makes it tough to determine what is separation and what is just a manifest of the light. I still have to say no based on the pictures I have seen. Rick, based on the comparisons I provided, would you say that the doubling is a match or not?
I'll have to deal with it tomorrow, went its day light, I will say, God looks pretty good, just have to work on we, thanks again non cents
No way that's die 4. With the images shown of the real deal, a person should be able to take a loop and know in 2 seconds if it's a match. It's not that tough.
my money is free, I've been on disability since 2002, everything is free in my world, it only cost 5 dollars to have wexler look at coins, nothing to lose, and everything to gain, live better, work union, local 1 masonry union, detroit mi. long live the masons
exactly, 10x doesn't lie, but microscope will bleeds out when set to high, thats why I'm having a hard time with photo of WE, everything else matches, wish they had a photo of the date, that would be helpful too, thats for sure
here a photo I just crop the upper half of the obverse, and you can see the W in WE is doubled on the outside of the W in WE, I will take new photos today, thanks everybody
Heres new photos of WE and God, wish I could get better photos, but it is what it is, going to wexler anyways, along with some other coins too
