Just received my set today and noticed the 2013 had a die break. In your opinion does this add to, or take away from the coins value? Here are some pictures with the plastic case removed.
I wouldn't. Pretty neat if it's an actuality. Need some better pics though. Now you're gonna need a 'regular' generic enhanced issue my friend.
I was unable capture it in the picture, but in hand it is obvious that it is raised. It has the same frosted look the other high points of the coin have.
Funny you should mention that, under closer observation I found another crack, or "a run in her stocking". I have decided to keep the coin.
With a world full of billions of people, someone will consider it highly collectable. Personally, I'm not that individual. I would return it.
people on ebay would eat this up. I'd let it sell and buy an attractive one, and then something else for my collection.
and get ridd of a nice error coin......please don't get rid of it.. send it to pcgs.. under mint error tier
It's hard to tell looking at the smaller size pics, but when you blow them up to full size you can see it, the line is frosted. But that means that the line is not a die crack, but a die scratch. That's because the only way the line (scratch) could get frosted is if it was already there when the die was being made - before that die even struck 1 coin - because that's when the frosting is done. I'm really surprised it got by the quality control inspectors, but there it is so it obviously did. And since it is on that coin, it is more than likely on some others as well. Unless of course the flaw got caught by the inspectors, and this coin somehow slipped through the cracks and was distributed. Never seen anything like it before.
My analysis would have been different (and not as definitive) but the result would have been the same. Die scratch. BTW I would have said the "line" is too regular (smooth) to be a die crack.
Are you sure it's not a crack on the plastic or a real piece of thread? It looks too perfect to be a die crack.
