I found a 1978 no mint mark dime. Are they rare and how much are they worth? I can't seem to find anything about it on the web. I know for a fact that it is not a proof. So i don't know if it's worth anything or not or how rare it is? I will try to put some pictures up in a little. I also found a identical 1978 d but that one does have a mint mark. They look exactly the same but the one does not have a mint mark.

its worth 10 cents. I get this question alot, and Before the 1980s, (dont know when) the no mint mark coins signaled it was made In pensilvania. Now in modern coins, They use a P. No additional value besides face value.

The D means it was made in Denver. They didnt make dimes in just one place, They Made them in denver, pensilvania, and san fransisco is for proofs. Any coin with an S on the obverse (only applys for modern, not pennies) is a proof. Its not that hard.

found what? S marked coins? Thats proof, if it is a Dime, Nickel, Quarter, Half Dollar or the above but Pennies for circulation were made in San Fransisco as well and arent rare.

Philly was considered "The mint" for the longest time so they didn't put mint marks on their coins. All the other mints, Denver, San Fran, Carson City, New Orleans, all put mint marks on their coins to distinguish the fact that they were not from Philly. At least I read that on the internet somewhere sometime....That means it must be true :)

Don't forget Dahlonega, the original D mint mark.

My guess would be if someone didn't know that a 1978 dime had no mint mark because it was minted at the Philadelphia mint, that they probably didn't know that the city of Charlotte had a working mint, either.

Im suprised people dont know the answer to these easy questions. As young as i am, I think these members are older, and I know this information as facts, The OPs question was obvious, and ofcourse Charlotte was a mint, as well as Dahlonega.
