ok now my 1984 penny has this weird arch clearly seen going threw the words in god we trust i had someone say they will give me 4 dollars to investigate it basically buying it off of me but i still have a picture if anyone could help me see if i did good or not
thats the best picture i took when i had the penny i sold it to a coin collector in manhattan for four dollars i dont know a thing about coins. i hope i didnt get dupped -_-
Very nice, I'm not into error coins, but that is "weird". There are plenty of people on here with tons of knowledge that will be able to help you out. I don't think it would hurt to get the reverse of the coin up here either, and hopefully when they wake up tomorrow, you'll get all the answers you're looking for!
thank u but is that common in coins because honestly the guy was very eager to buy it but he didnt want to go higher then 4 dollars lol but when i was leaving he said ten so i took ten for it
This is not an error and doesn't add any premium... except apparently in your case. This is super common during that time period and I find hundreds of them when roll searching. I save none. The buyer must not really be an error collector or he'd probably know this. Good deal for you, but I wouldn't be suprised if the guy wants his $10 back later...
no it looked about the same size as a normal penny and thats why he asked me if i wanted to get rid of it because he said to him it seemed like a normal penny with a little error and he wanted to take it out my hands for walkin 30 blocks
Silentnviolent answered you're question! Just gotta wait a little but and someone will almost always come in with some knowledge!
I know I'm new and all, but compare the thickness of the top edge to the bottom edge. Isn't this an off-center strike with "In God We Trust" struck on the rolled edge? Or am I confused?
The cent has die deterioration which is causing the "arch". Very common with no value. It also has a slight misaligned die but not far enough off that any of the design is missing so once again very common and no premium value. So you have a cent that has no premiom value that someone wants to give you $30 for. SELL OK you got $4 for it which was 400 times what it was worth, you did good.
this is the problem with multiple threads. I answered this in another thread by the OP 2 days ago......
