Just wondering, did anyone know these were coming out today? Great looking coin, I wish they were smaller and I wish they were gold, even tho' I can only afford brass. There's other new ones on his site too. :thumb: http://www.dc-coin.com/fantasyover-struckusacoins.aspx
Oh boy... here we go again. Dang it, I love DC's coins, and this one's a beauty. Struck over a genuine bust half.. amazing. Well, there's a 2011 gold version on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Daniel-Carr...093?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab96b5d45
Yeah, I didn't buy one yet but I bought a couple other coins. I picked up one of these 1/4 ouncers just to have, it helps to quell the urge to spend money I don't have.
That just kills me that he can overstrike a real piece of history. if it were a kenady half, I would have nothing to say, but this, it is almost sickening.
And I'm sure many will agree with you. I'm picturing members of the BHNC holding an emergency meeting as we speak.
Personally, I like his work and what he does even though I do not own his peices. But I would like to buy some in the near future.
Absolutely you can have your own opinion. I just mean here we go again because every time the subject of Daniel Carr comes up the word counterfeiter comes up. Actually he mints "fantasy coins" but I don't expect anyone to agree with me. Life is too short to get into these internet wrestling matches we have on here. You have your opinion and I have mine, I will leave it at that. :thumb:
Agreed, but the rolling eyes didn't help the cohesiveness. We all have opinions, and that's what makes us the collectors we are.
Oh, LP... but didn't you read his site? "2) According to the US Treasury, no 1816 half dollars were ever released and none exist today - so this can't be a copy of one since they don't exist." So the next time our Asian friends make a 1903-CC $1, all they need do is strike it over a junk dollar and whammo! 7x melt and a following to boot! Just for the sake of clarity, I've nothing personally against the man and greatly respect his entrepreneurial spirit. However, lets be real here.. anyone thinking that Carr is some sort of miracle worker and only he can produce such "coins" are doing nothing more than kidding themselves. Even with the many laughably poor counterfeits they've made, our Asian friends are not the bumbling idiots some seem to think. If Carr can do this, so can they.
When talk comes up about DC pieces being counterfeit or not, we simply do not know. The laws have been written, but for this case never been tested. For any Quantum Physics Fans out there, it is like Schrodinger's cat. Just as the cat was both simultaneously dead and alive at the same time, so are DC's coins. They are both counterfeit an non- counterfeit at the same time. To find out we must "open the box". To open the box for the coin, that means tested in court. At that point a judge just like you or me will make a decision. Depending on which judge gets the case, or even the judges particular mood that day, his decision can go either way and them it will be the law of the land. Only at that point, just as in Schrodinger's cat will we know. You need to open the box. Will that box ever be opened? I doubt it, so we will never know. Mike
