    That's a good idea, hugger!

    1. NGC is, without a doubt, better than PCGS!

    2. Silver, obviously! Why do you think they coined the words/terms "fool's gold" and "quicksilver"?

    Perspective Dependent Response!

I believe that an appropriate thread attuned answer to your two queries is: The selection is focus dependent on whether the responder places greater emphasis on historical performance, or current trends.

The above is my less controversial thread attuned response. My personal more controversial response is: NGC for historical grading consistency, PCGS for ROI when buying at market value and selling at "PCGS Price Guide" value, Gold for historical value retention, Silver for ROI when purchasing at current dealer buy pricing and selling on eBid at eBay market pricing.

Have always wondered what that term means, as here in Germany nobody says that (or anything like "deutsches Silber"). But yes, that is an excellent investment. :)

I was at a museum recently where one of the guides was saying how high the metal value of some item was, even though the item was made of German silver. I quickly replied that German silver has a much lower melt value than the melt of real silver.

Yes, but you have to realize that Christian is taking the term at face value and not in its' colloquial context.

Just looked it up, and apparently it came from China and was then imitated/recreated following a competition in what today would be Germany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_silver#History Interesting. In German there are the words "Neusilber" (lit. "new silver) or "Argentan" for that kind of alloy which has never been used for coins from this country (Federal Republic of Germany), but the GDR (East G., -1990) used it.

Errm, I would like to apologize for being OT here. Seriously, I am not sure about what David's initial post referred to, but I know such public statements are hardly ever easy. So: :thumb:

This Feuchtwanger cent is a German silver coin. Still think that this thread is the most attention dysfunction disorder thread ever.

I forgot that this is an international forum. Was just trying to make funny. Good run-down on German Silver (and other names) here

No offense meant to anyone, but could we take this discussion, (and its a good one), to another thread? This thread was created by a member to apologize for words he many have written here, and while I appreciate a good informative discussion, think its unfair to the OP to have this post pop up over and over.

    Just my opinion.

We are past that. If someone still had a problem with the OP, they had the chance to post it.
Move on and have fun. :smile
