For those of us who enjoy the Perth Mint Kookaburra series as well as the high relief format, these will be released on May 1st (Australia time). It will be the first high relief Kookaburra ever released. The finish is proof. The cost with conversion to Australian dollars and shipping from Australia will be about $130.00.

  3. Wow, the Perth Mint can really produce a large number of PM coins at a rapid pace. I will be interested to see reaction to this one though. Many are unhappy with the Perth Mint's decision to restrike earlier years of the Kook series that did not reach mintage limits. I like this series but do not own a single one. Maybe this is the time to jump in? TC

Little OT but It was wake up call there is nothing stopping mints from issuing more rare date bullion issues' to make more $$$ .

Could this possibly turn out like the U.S. 2009 UHR?

  7. True, but the Perth Mint is getting blasted on many of the bullion forums for producing too many numismatic products and also for re-striking older issues.

Two things, FWIW. I like the kooks and just to mention it, the mark up of this coin is slightly more than 20% :)

reminting older coins. Perhaps a mistake but they were committed to so many coins that they didn't fill and there was a larger demand than even those numbers.

If they really want to cash in, they can make a reminting of the Black Widow coin and sell them out at $500 a piece to maybe 10,000 coins.

Very cool. The quality of the Perth Mint items really is amazing. This one is a bit pricey for my taste, though.

Is this just a special edition to the Kook series or is this going to be "thee" 2012 Kook issue? Thanks.

    Thanks treehugger.

I'll be honest the coin doesn't do much for me. Now if that were a high relief american silver eagle from the San Francisco mint that would be another thing.

It's a special edition. The 2012 regular Kookaburra has already been released.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes the Mint will do the exact same thing with the Eagle some day also.

You can purchase the regular 2012 Kook for about $42.00 or 35% over spot. The high relief proof will cost about $110.00 U. S. Dollars or 3.5 times spot.

The regular Kooks are purchased from most coin dealers. The high relief will be available tomorrow afternoon on the Perth Mint website.

mmmmmm, maybe not - this is the 7th high relief coin they have come out with (marathon, sydney cove, 2 kangaroos, 2012 dragon and a gold koala). It may be pretty but not exactly rare...
