I've had it with Ebay

    Forgive my rant but:

I sell an item and the buyer e-mails me and says Ebay has frozen his PayPal account until a payment made to him clears. So he can't pay me. I respond within 23 minutes and tell him it's okay but please try and pay within 7 days.

Tonight he leaves me NEGATIVE feedback saying 1) he got an error message when making a payment and 2) I never responded to his e-mail.

I call Ebay and they refuse to remove the negative feedback because "feedback is opinion-based and hard to disprove". I tell them I have PROOF because I have the e-mail showing I responded in 23 minutes where the buyer says I never responded at all! Ebay still refuses so I ask to talk to his boss.

I'm told Ebay only removes feedback for non-paying buyers or extortion. I tell them he NEVER PAID but Ebay says it's only been 3 days so have to wait 4 before filing for that.

So I can't leave this jerk negative feedback but only a response to his LIES. Even if Ebay does remove it, I will have a check on my

    Revised Feedback: 0
    Click for help
    box.

I told Ebay (they refused to offer this) that I KNOW Ebay will remove feedback when references are made to Ebay's internal system, So now, Ebay MAY reconsider and remove the negative feedback because he couldn't make the payment because of Ebay's putting a freeze on his account. This had NOTHING to do with me!

But I had to use up 1 of my "remove feedback" requests on this idiot. You are only given 5 per year.

Why is Ebay so intent on protecting lying buyers who don't even pay? This is bad for business, don't you think? I hope to NEVER sell on Ebay again. And I don't want to buy there either.
I have always gone out of my way to be honest and responsive yet this is what I get.

    Meanwhile I buy:

    1) Yellowed stamps that don't look like this in the picture.
    2) Corroded proof sets that were promised "clean", twice before buying. Then told me "The corrosion is normal aging".
    3) Barometer told it can be polished in ad. But there is NO plating in some spots so NOTHING there to polish.
    4) "Rainbow toned" coin that is merely tarnished silver.
    5) Not a coin, but "NEW jacket" that has 3 tears in it. Ebay removed my negative feedback because I said "had to open case" and you aren't allowed to reference internal Ebay affairs on a feedback. Or was it that ths seller does HUNDREDS of items per year??? Hhhmmmmmmm

Sure I can return it but it takes my time and money. Getting sick of that too.

    Ugghhhh, I'm going to bed.

So where is an ethical place to buy coins??????????????????

The best thing is to find sellers who have ethics.

Its like if you go to a coin show, or say a random coin shop, they may or may not be ethical or have morals. Sometimes they will be very truthful and not rip people off (btw rip off means sell something saying its one thing but its really not, getting top dollar is just good business in nearly all cases). Other times they will sell unsuspecting people fakes or purposely mislead them, or they will say a item is worthless and offer them below melt value on a Morgan dollar when they know its really a MS70 1889-CC DDO DDR DMPL and next to priceless.

Point is theres good sellers on Ebay and bad sellers. Some of us go out of their way to be honest on Feebay. Taking pictures that make the coin look slightly worse then it does irl and showing off its imperfections even more so just so that people are not surprised (in a bad way) when they receive their coin.

Then there is the bad guys who write misleading ads with vague titles and blurry pictures in an attempt to deceive and hope they trick someone into paying for something that is not what they thought it would be.

Just stick to the good guys and you won't be dissapointed.

This is another reason why I only buy on eBay and well, I've deserved every positive feed back since I usually pay immediately after the auction has ended. Only times I don't is when I'm waiting on combined shipping charges or other auctions to end to combine. :)

Sellers on eBay would literally have to try and kill me before I left negative feedback. I think one problem is, you have a lot of shoppers on eBay who get so easily frustrated because they're A) Computer illiterate B) Ignorant C) Don't know when the seller is truly at fault for anything that goes wrong.

Before I buy, if a seller has less than 100% feed back rating, I check to see why. I see sometimes the dumbest replies to negative feedback when it wasn't the seller at fault but the buyer just being an idiot.

cdc, if I were to buy from you and saw some idiot give you negative feedback because he got an error message when making payment, well, that's not your fault and that's just a stupid stupid person who likely shouldn't have survived child birth in the first place.

Used to sell hundreds of book auctions per month on ebay several years ago. Ebay went over to the buyer's side years ago. When they eliminated the ability of the sellers to leave negs for buyers, it was all downhill for the sellers. Now the sellers are just sheep that ebay needs to bring product to market.

I started on ebay in 1998 and can still remember when total fees were under 4%, Paypal was a seperate company and was free to use. The said they would always be free because the made their money on the float.

If you are never going to sell there and probably not buy there either, I wouldn't sweat giving up one of five "remove feedback" requests from eBay. It becomes a moot point.

I sold on eBay for 3 years.

They really went down hill when that arrogant SOB John Donahoe took over the company. He is a complete idiot and a sham.

Once I had a negative left where the buyer called me a vulgar swear word. I had to speak to 5 CS reps before they removed it. The 1st 4 would not even say the word, and pretended like it wasn't even on there.

They also said it would take a court order to remove feedback.

Don't ever mention any legal action. I once told them that I was going to take them to court (very long story), and they transferred me to a supervisor, they said if I mention legal action, that they are no longer obligated to speak to me, and hung up.

    I remember:

    1. Paypal "FREE AND ALWAYS WILL BE"... Well that did not last very long.

    2. Having the option to leave buyers negs. They took that away because they love kissing the buyer's behind.

    3. The night when over (IDR the exact number, but it was in the thousands) listings mysteriously appeared the same day eBay sellers had a HUGE boycot (this was back in '08). eBay said it was a "bug"...ya ok. They did this on purpose to pad the listing count to not worry stockholders.

    4. They allowed .coms and stores like Toys R US and Buy.com to sell on there with NO FEES. We (the ebay community) watched them removed hundreds of negs because they sold a bunch of items that were out of stock.

    5. They removed the option for money orders and cashier checks....saying it was "unsafe". The actual reason was to force people to use paypal.

    6. They allowed a alternative payment processor "propay" on eBay. This payment processor stole hundreds of thousands of dollars, held them for over 3 months claiming "they were switching banks".

Come to find out...the head honcho of the company, Gregory Quinn, was having a "sexual reasignment surgery". HE/she is now known as "Gregette". They still alow this scum company on here.

    7. The illegal holding of funds by paypal. They froze over $400 of MY MONEY for 180 days...claiming "random security check". They did this to a lot of people. They used that held money to gather interest. I read articles of over 20,000 being held.

    8. eBay scolded many sellers for having too high of shipping...then turned around and started charging sellers 9% for shipping.

    9. Shoving "free shipping" down sellers throats. There is NO SUCH THING as free shipping. The cost is baked in somewhere. Who ever believes shipping is free needs a slap in the face with a dead fish.

    10. Raising the bar to make it harder for power sellers.

Well I could go on for hours. But eBay is not a good place. They buy out other venues to monopolize. Don't ever forget they own 25% of Craigslist.

Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate them. The good news is the buyer changed his feedback to positive but still wrote he would have liked a faster reply. As if 23 minutes was not fast enough?

Snapsalot, agreed. But how do you know...until after you buy?

Thecoingeezer. Except he called it "Rainbow" toned and photographed it with colored lighting to give the appearance of rainbow colors. Not just the typical brown-gray of tarnished silver.

Rodeoclon: I'll add you to my favored buyer list :)

Saltysam-1: True, I don't think I will be needing my other 4 revision requests.

Detecto those are quite the stories! I did ask for their address but didn't specifically say I would be writing to California Attorney general's office / consumer Protection.
Ebay only allows $3.00 maximum shipping on books - cost me ~$3.70 plus their "shipping fees" percentage charge. And now PayPal holds EVERYONE's money for some time period.

So, where DO I buy coins if not Ebay?

    Local craigslist.com

Just meet in a public place you're familiar with, and only bring the amount of cash they want for the coin. Be watchful of being followed home after the transaction and never give your phone # or address to the other party.

If something doesn't feel right, just leave. You're also under no pressure to buy. If they ask for something more than the agreed upon price, just leave.

You can also try coin shows too.

    T
his one is active and has two different slabbed coins in the listing, one is quite shiny(no rainbow tone) and the other is toned, not rainbow, but toned. Notice two different NGC slabs in the listing as well as different grades on the labels, only one matches the title:

Check a persons feedback. One who sells a lot of coins. If for the most part all you see is rave reviews like "Perfect transaction. Exactly as described. Delivered promptly. Thanks!!" or "I wouldn't call these junk. There are some real nice coins in this lot. Thank you" on a junk silver lot, and even the simple yet effective "A+ Coin" Then id feel pretty ok to at least test the waters and buy a smaller coin of the seller.

Yes I am shameless btw because those are feedbacks from my ebay rofl :D

I put NGC by accident instead of PCGS as the grading company O.O The pics clearly showed the coin in the pcgs holder o_O

I dont see how that falls into the catagory of scams especially when pcgs carry a slightly higher premium then ngc.

    Those are your auctions?

Seriously dude, if they are, your titles are misleading as they say one thing and your pics are not what's in the title.

Those links I posted, all the titles include rainbow toned.

The tone is anything but rainbow.

All 3 of those coins look quite rainbow toned to me.

so true Detecto , no neg feedback, 9% robbery, including on shipping. unreal. To which I will add their latest thing. You now have to give them your PayPal account number or a CC for AUTOPAY of any buyers protection settlements that ebay decides in the buyer's favor. So, they now take the money from your account (auto pay to them) without asking, and give it to the buyer. I have never had neg feedback. Asking me to give them open access to my account to settle with buyers on THEIR opinion. I don't think so. Well, I pulled my last auction and now I've stopped using Ebay. But where do you go now?
