Hello Coin People, Last weekend I took 198 slabbed coins from a SDB to play at home. I hadn't seen these coins for a long time & it was nice to make their acquaintance again. The SDB coins included my proof collection of Liberty nickels and an MS collection of Liberty nickels. There were also a bunch of other really cool coins ranging from $5 coins to $5,000 coins. In total there were 198 in the box. Before returning them to the SDB I photographed them all to create a record of what was in the box. I rapidly took two pictures of each coin & probably invested about an hour photographing all 198 slabs. :smile I then had to invest much more time just to align & crop the 400 photos. The pics are not really glamour photos that I would be proud to post here at CT but I think they are very adequate to describe the contents of the SDB. What do you think of these pics?
Here is one in the SDB that I didn't remember having..... But now I remember.....:rollling: I got the coin in a PCGS holder & planned to have it crossed to NGC. Not having a submission planned, I stored it away and it got stored in the SDB with my other DDR half dollars. I'd actually forgotten about it until now. Of course, this was a nice surprise. Now I wish that I had taken a better photo to view the details of this particular doubled die reverse.
Yeah Collect, I love being surprised by DDO's I forgot I had stashed in my SDB with other sweet coins. :rollling: But seriously, some beautiful coins.
All my ancients are in my sig here, my U.S. coins are posted on the NGC site but only a few have photos. Ive never had a desire to take pics of them all. Quarter of then are problem based.
That is a serious numismatic photographic masterpiece. All are great coins. I particularly like the 1879-S from the Key West Collection.
Collect89, while I do like the pictures I feel that a lot of details are lost when its not cropped close. Thats one of the major reasons why it takes so long. The copying and pasting is fine but then I do like to create a new background for it. I would say a hundred coins may take half a day or more time.
That sounds about right. I think you are right on with your estimate. Maybe a little longer for someone who is not very comfortable in the graphic software. I am very proficient in graphics software (I use Adobe Fireworks for coins), and I will say taking the image, transferring it to the computer, doing adjustments, cropping and exporting, it takes me on average, probably about 4 minutes per coin. So 100 coins at 4 minutes a coin would be 6.6 hours. That's if I can even focus long enough to do that many.
A tightly cropped glamour photo of obverse & reverse would take much more time The slab photos I posted on this thread are not glamour photos. They are intended to document what is in that one SDB. That is why I took 400 photos in an hour. For their purpose, they came-out OK. Here are some pretty coins & coin photos IMO. In order to take & edit similar glamour photos of 200 coins would probably take 200 x 2 x 10 minutes/coin = 66 hours. (These coins are not in that SDB).
I am working on photographing all, save the rolls. Some of my better coins can be seen on Gbroke's site: www.thecoinnection.com And here I am: http://www.thecoinnection.com/publi....php?gui=2c2af014-f86e-11e0-aed3-4040cbe5e1c5
I tend to crop my shots like this make it nice when you print it out. I need to tweak this a little more but here is one i am working on:
