Oh dear, Darryl has told me on several occasions to stop feeding the trolls. I can be most naughty at times......:)

I have found the threads of discussion on Coin Talk to be very cordial the overwhelming majority of the time. There have been some heated texts to read, but thankfully they have been few and far between. I am one who enjoys the photos of new coins collectors have received and like to show them to our other members. Coin Talk has been a wonderful resource that has kick-started and rekindled my somewhat dormant collection into high gear over the past year.

I'm a new guy here who's an admitted "non-collector", which would likely make me more of a target for people who are passionate about the hobby. However, I can say that I've been very nicely treated and the people here have been very helpful.

Could I have taken a response as a snide comment? Sure. But in the grand scheme of things our existence is just a speck in cosmic history and life is just too short to worry about something as trivial as a misunderstanding or someone who has the need to make themselves feel superior. I'm here for the education and intellectual entertainment and what happens beyond that I ignore.

Trolls and dissers feed on negative feedback. Don't give it to them.

Remember the old saying, "Don't sweat the small stuff ... and everything is the small stuff."

Has everyone noticed the amazing collection of participants that this thread has drawn? Its rewarding to see the new and old OP's showering this subject with positive comments. This thread proves once again why we have chosen CT to learn and entertain. It really vindicates all the fine people who participate. I for one Thank You!

Just wanted to add something, which has been mentioned but doesn't hurt to repeat it regularly.......

If you see a post that you think is overly rude, or for whatever reason you think the moderators should have a look at it, then report the post.

Even if we don't take action on that specific instance, we will take note. And, yes it does make a difference if we have a whole bunch of people reporting something, instead of nobody reporting it.

Dave - I wasn't protesting, nor was I trying to defend anybody. I was merely responding to this -

I don't know about you, but I read that as a request for us to do more moderating. So, by responding, I was trying to explain to the person who made that request why we do not do more moderating than what we already do.

I was also attempting to show that there are two different sides to the issue. That while some folks think we need to do more moderating, there are just as many if not more that think we do too much moderating.

But in any case, my comments were not a protest, complaint, or a defense on my part. Folks here are free to say what they want, as long as they do so within the forum rules ;)

This is one of the best and most valid threads currently active on CT. This subject has bothered me from time to time. I'm glad someone addressed it finally. You can say I have no backbone for it, but I often refrain from posting from certain threads rather than say something negative. This train of thought seems to work well in avoiding marital disputes as well. I thank my mother long ago for the wonderful advice!:)

The vast majority of posts are friendly and informative. However we can all feel a little rasty at one time or another and we don't always have to be so politically correct, it is just that if someone is really offended at something, 1) they should say so and 2) the offender should either explain themselves and/or apologize. I have found myself in this situation and think I have always apologized when it was pointed out I was either wrong or discourteous. Sorry if anyone is offended by this post :)

    PS, does sarcasm count.

I've been watching this thread, was going to stay out of it but I've decided I will throw my .02 cents in the hat. My opinion FWIW is that this forum is pretty mild. I don't read all the threads. I probably only read about 20% of them. I can't ever recall shutting down the computer at the end of a day thinking cointalk was really rough that day.

I have not seen the moderators over-moderating and have no complaints against them. I would not want to see more moderation as it tends to ruin forums when free speech becomes overly restricted.

At times I believe things can be taken out of context on a forum when there's lack of audible tones in conjunction with what's being said. I've been straight forward with people a few times. I've suggested people use the search function a few times because they would probably get more from a better, longer, thread from the past than a new one that will receive limited attention. Only because some things have been covered so many times. That's simply being honest.

I'm willing to be both positive and negative depending on what the situation is. Whether it's a forum or in real life. To me that's just being realistic about things and nobody should be offended by me. I can't speak for others that I may not have read here.

Of all the forums I have been involved with, this forum is the only one that has removed a posting I made. I was not in the least upset about the deletion. The posting was in response to someone who I thought was being very insensitive to a touchy subject. The moderator removed both posts. I just wish more could be done to make this forum friendlier. From now on, I will report not respond. Could a moderator please let me know how to go about this on this forum.
