Are you a feeler?

Personally, I hate taking my coins out of their protective 2 x 2 or other casing, but I have a couple close friends who love feeling their bare coins. One of them no doubt would have their collection in their mouth if they had their way :p. Any opinions on this? Are you a feeler? Or do you hate touching them bare, like me?

The only time i touch them bare, is when i recieve them to take pictures and then put them in 2x2's.
Once they are in the 2x2's they never get out again.

I wouldn't say touching is okay, I would say handling them is better. You can touch the coins by the edge, but rubbing your fingers on the surface will damage the coins with the oil in your hands, leave fingerprints and may even scratch the coin.

Once they go in a holder they stay in the holder. FOREVER!

Some people don't even want to have a coin in a slab. They feel like the coin is in a museum under glass, and they can't touch it.

I love slabs, I don't have to touch coins, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

Eh, the downside of all of the warnings people issues to newbies. If a coin is circulated, especially below XF, I cannot see how clean hands will harm them.

I ignore all this crud and collect ancients. I can touch them all day long. :)

I think the word is "fondler". I'm a fondler. I hate slabs. There's nothing like holding history in your hand. Some of my coins are from 600 B.C.. I love to fondle them!

I run a good chance of getting lead poising if I touch my coins too much. Heh.

I keep a handful of junk, for that very reason. No better teaching tool than to toss a few of each across the holiday gathering coffee table. If they were all in albums, that's more off-putting to potential newbs.

    I am NOT a feeler.

While a some "casual cuddling" is ok for circulated coins and some uncirculated coins, its just not something I feel the need to do.

If I were selling a coin that the perspective buyer wanted to take out of its 2x2 for some touchy/feely, I'd say no.

Depends on the coin - would not fondle or feel up a MS coin as mentioned, but some of the lower grade coins I do not worry about. Again depends on the coin I have several large cents I do not mind handling or letting other people handle them.

When I get raw bullion coins I use gloves to hold them and then put them in an air-tite holder. I do touch the elements on the obverse/reverse of the coin and like the weight of the coin in my hand :) Other than those coins the other coins I buy are already encased and I don't remove the coins from the casing.

Touching the elements, eh? Do you mean devices? I'm new to all this...

I have a 1923 Peace dollar "pocket piece" which I fondle quite regularly.

I'm not a fan of slabs at all and will hold a coin by the rim, if it is reeded. If I do hold a coin on the obverse/reverse, I use a jeweler's cloth. Slabs just depersonalize the coin experience for me. To each their own.

Yeah, but you are an oddball collector even amongst ancient collectors. :) I mean, how many people in the world collect tessarae????

I actually have some lead Chinese cash. I worry more about handling my Aztec coins, (arsenic), but admit I do not fondle lead willy nilly.
