Great start to the weekend. My boss let me out early so I picked up my Saturday box of halves. It yielded 2 40%ers, 2 Walkers and a Franklin! I also recently did a buy-it-now on the 'bay which came in today...2 Walkers, 3 SLQ's for $35.75 shipped...basically $49 melt value for $36. The seller also threw in a Merc and a silver Rosie. Good luck to all you searchers this weekend!

I went to pick up my two boxes of halves today and they said they had not ordered them for some reason, so I decided to get a dime box for the first time. I went through it as my dad went through a penny box he had bought. I went through probably 15 rolls and hadn't gotten anything, when my dad picked out a roll from my box and opened it, and pulled a '63. I was like great, he just pulled probably the only silver in the box in his first roll. Luckily there were three more in the box for me, so a total of four, all roosevelts, '48, '59, '63, '64. I'll probably start doing them now until I get a few 1 or less. A couple questions on dime boxes, do you only pull out the silver, or do you look for the '96-W or the no P date? Are there any others to save? How many 2009s do you guys usually find, I checked the mintages and the '09 is crazy low like the nickels, but I pulled at least 25 from this box. Also, I pulled this weird dime out, what do you guys think? img386.jpg img387.jpg

colligoergosum I collect, therefore I am

Went to a B of A in a town that I haven't hit before, asked for halves and received two sad looking clad ones. But when the teller opened her drawer I spied beautiful silver quarters - five of them - lined up in a corner of her tray. I asked if I could buy them and she graciously offered them up, much to my surprise. 4 1964s and 1 1946D :) My first silver quarters, and I didn't even have to search through any rolls for them.

She was obviously saving them! JERK! haha but really, I feel bad when WE PEOPLE take the banker's coins, I mean it's fair game, they HAVE TO give it to you if you ask for them. But just know when you leave, they're going to pray you crash :p

hello all. new to the forum. i've been searching halves for about 2 weeks now. it's so addictive. i've found 30+ 65-70's, 4 64's, a few proofs, and 2 franklins. i've searched rolls of quarters and dimes before but, no luck. all i search for is silver tho. no telling what i've passed up.

i started by going bank to bank asking for halves then i realized i could search for local banks on my iphone and it'd map out its location and also give me the phone number so i searched local towns and i'd call and ask if they had any before i went. i called one of the banks i'm a member of today to ask about ordering a box. they said they'd have to call me back monday because they need to find out the details. i may have to order more than one box at a time and may have to pay a shipping charge. my other bank told me they don't order for customers. i've been thinking of going to banks i'm not a member of and asking them about ordering me boxes if i become a member. i've read on some sites where many banks order customers boxes with no problems. going bank to bank is ok but, it's time consuming and there's just gotta be a better way.

all in all i love it tho. like searching for treasure. i've been buying silver bars, rounds, and eagles to invest. i sell most of the halves to finance buying the silver.

Took another roadtrip before the coaching season starts up Monday. Hit the third best half bag ever(176) 40% and (11) 90%. Gotta love days like that. I will be hitting the Copper Pennies much harder next week. Did get one penny bag this week that had 99% Copper Pennies in it and half the bag were BU 1980-P.

Yeah definately a nice box Merc, always fun to find a Buff, and even better that box coughed the 3 war nickels. Have you been able to sell and BU coins that you've found in circulation? Just curious.

I figured I could always just claim that. Like seriously, can they really argue that? I doubt it

Haven't tried. I wouldn't wanna sell my BU's for what they're worth anyway, they're worth more than that to me.
They can't really argue it, it's a pretty solid argument especially if you just dumped enough change in there to fill a bag...

Wait how much are BU's worth?

Negligible amount over face, especially from the '60's, they were saved in bulk.

    EDIT: Cool, hit 3k posts.
