    Hello,
I am new to this site, so please bare with me. I was wondering if anyone would have any kind of information as to this old coin that we found in my husbands deceased father's estate? It is a 1792 coin in which he got while serving in WWII. On the front of the coin is a picture of chief possibly with a scarf. The wording around the coin: CAROL IIII.D.G HIS P.ET IND. 1792 On the back side is a picture of a shield and the wording around it: IN.UTRO.FELIX. AUSPICE.DEO. On the left side of the shield is the number 8 and on the right is the letter S. We didnt know if we should just toss it into a box of misc. for the auction or have it looked at. If anyone knows anything in regards to this, I would greatly appreciate any help. I will also be posting a picture of this coin. Thank you..

First, without a photo of both sides of the coin , we can't help you much.

They look like the same blurry photos except now they are larger.

Can you retake the photos and try to get the coin in focus? Use a tripod or steady the camera against something solid so the camera does not move when the shutter is open.

it's also a counter marked coin. Colonial Spanish 8 Reales . The Carol 1111 is the spanish version of Charles the 4th who was king of Spain at the time. Strictly by your photos, it appears to be genuine, but you would do well to have the coin looked at in hand by a local Coin Dealer . It could be worth hundreds of dollars , so have it appraised .

Okay thank you for your time and looking at it for me. I guess we had better not toss it just yet. I really appreciate your help on this matter.

I agree as well that it does not appear to be genuine.

Definitely fake. The lettering is too amateurish, and that blue color is a big problem. Here's a real 8 reales from the following year, 1793:

I agree with Hobo, It shouts out fake to my eyes.

But as they say go see a coin dealer he will be able to say for sure

    Please explain

I've personally seen a few " Genuine " examples. What is it you see, that suggests it is not genuine ? You very well could be correct , but I can't see anything in the photo which definitely tells me it's counterfeit .
