This was just a dirt-cheap eye-candy acquisition. Israel made a series of these medals in 1965, commemorating various cities and ancient coins. It's a goodly sized chunk of tombac at 45mm, 40g.

I have only seen one 1959 Krona a few years back in a PCGS holder but sold on ebay for $138.00 bucks by a dealer on the west coast that seems to sell every thing on ebay for hugh amounts of money.....very fishy if you ask me. Well here is a picture of my new baby.

This medal commemorates the restoration of St. Giles Church in Edinburough in 1883.
Brown's British Historical medals (#3157) lists versions in gold, silver and white metal
while the NY Historical Society describes their piece as aluminum
(http://www.nyhistory.org/node/57007.
The piece shown below does not have the high-point darkening which is common
to white metal medals and is more of a uniform light grey.

Is there an easy way to tell what it's actually make of? Thanks!
It has a book value of 25 cents in XF. With a little less than 4 hours left, the price is up to $15.50 for a coin that should sell for a dollar or so. I don't get it. There is a silver version of this coin in Krause but this obviously is not it.

the seller had it listed as "mamluk stultans of egypt and syria, damascus, 1341ad", but it looks like these artquid coins..

so...

Nasir al-Din Artuq Arslan (1201 - 1239 AD)
AE Dirham
AH 618 (1221/1222 AD)
Obverse: Male bust facing slightly right.
Reverse: Five line Kufic legend surrounded by marginal legend.

so wikipedia hasn't cleared this up for me, the mamluks and artquids rules some of the same areas, maybe with some overalap in time...but anyway, i'm confused and not sure how to attribute this coins. any ideas?
