I am new to collecting and I am interested in the presidential dollar coin rolls. How can I tell if the roll I have is from the P or D Mint? I have a few rolls that are white with red stripes, and they have "Harrisburg, PA" printed on the side and a hand-written letter "D", - the website I bought it from sold it to me as "D" Mint. Should the roll actually have "Denver, CO" printed on it? Or do they all say Harrisburg, PA no matter where its from? I know I could just look at the edge of the coin, but I don't want to open the roll.
Anybody know whats up with this? Thanks!

Hello friends....I am just introducing myself. I started collecting like many others of my generation at an early age(thanks to my father) in 1960. Started with of course a Lincoln Penny and then moving to Jefferson nickels. The pleasure for me has never ceased since those first years. These days I find great pleasure in trying to put collectable coins away for my grandson to enjoy. At 7 he is already getting pleasure from coin collecting(although I am sure not as much as I do, at least not yet). Heres to doing what makes you happy!...

Howdy. This is Marshall. Just introducing myself as suggested.

I've been collecting since the mid sixties before I was 10 and have gone through several phases of collecting. I'm pld enough to have actually found Indians in circulation and quite a few Buffalos. Silver was still a frequent find and a nice little collection could be put together from coins in circulation.

Then Virg Marshall (add) showed me the way to actually spending money to get coins I couldn't find. I would save my allowance for weeks to get low grade S mintmark coins I couldn't find or to get the book I Lincolns which were hard to come by. He must have had the patience of a saint to out together a $5 order of the lowest grade coins he advertised.

Anyway, I went through several stages of stopping and selling my coins and then starting up again. I finally settled on focusing in on early date large cents. After doing this for a while, I expanded into middle dates when I was fortunate enough to spend an evening talking coins with John Wright as a guest of him and his lovely wife and was able to get his Cent Book on middle dates.

In the late nineties, while the price of Gold had fallen to reasonable levels, I also started collecting types and mints in Gold. The last item on my list is a Dahlonega mint coin.

Does anyone know anything about this coin?

My name is Stewart Huckaby. I'm first and foremost a collector, and I've been collecting since I first saw my great aunt's bag of junk silver with all the really cool old coins 40 years ago. I collect, well, almost anything (except gold most of the time), although I suppose if you had to nail me down to one specialization it would be seated dimes and half dimes.

I've been a member of coin clubs since the early seventies, almost continuously, and I've held most of the officer positions at one point or another.

Like I mentioned above, I'm first and foremost a collector. I'm not a dealer, but I do work for one, and the dealer I work for is Heritage Auctions, who most likely needs no further introduction. Most of my work is with the website, but I do occasional coin cataloging (which means I get to see some really, really cool coins!), more than occasional coin catalog editing, and every once in a while I'll even call an auction.

I'm more than happy to listen to any comments, concerns, complaints, or compliments you might have; drop me a PM if you like.

Hi all,

Hi all,

Want to let those of you who know me from my past posting here at CT that Thalia Elizabeth and I have returned from a summer break from coin collecting.

There were a lot of Multiple Competing Priorities over the summer, and coupled with a less than optimal reaction to my 1000th post contest here and my winding down and transition away from my officer role in the local coin club, I thought it best to step away from the hobby for a spell.

Those Multiple Competing Priorities continue of course, but I did get to one show this fall (our clubs). I don't expect to be as active here as I was earlier, but I will now have the opportunity to look in on CT every so often.

And I'm looking forward to putting some more fun into things. Thalia Elizabeth is still collecting coins with Queen Elizabeth II on them and she even has an Elizabeth I coin now as well. I've decided to narrow my own focus a bit in the meantime. My primary hobby remains model railroading and I'm still writing the column referenced in my handle.

Now, to catch up on some reading...
