Selling Coins

Posted 08-02-2009 at 08:12 PM by chip

One of the most knowledgable posters on coin talk listed a number of rules or guidelines about the hobby, one of the guidelines was to actually sell some coin, not just remain a buyer but participate in the hobby from the other side of the transaction.

Considerring the source and the inherent sense in the advice, plus the fact that I am involved in settling my fathers estate, this last week I sold coins to the general public, not to coin collectors, not to people who know the value...

Spanish Escudo- Real???

Posted 07-27-2009 at 10:22 PM by coinsurfer

I got a couple Spanish Escudo in my shop (Aurum Strategies- I buy scrap gold), and I am new at the whole coin thing but am interested in starting a collection. One of the escudos was gold and was in a necklace and the other was silver (maybe) and was smaller. I think, after a little research, I have identified the gold one to be a 2 Escudo and the smaller one to be 1/2 Escudo. A possibly contrary piece of coin collecting advice is to collect what you like. Ah theres the rub. Pun intended.

I heard a story of a dealer that regularly dipped coins, he was going on a trip and...

Need help/info- Freeport Nickel Company Coin, Cuba

Posted 07-22-2009 at 08:44 PM by Pikester

It appears to be a coin made by the company while they had a facility in Cuba back in the 1930's. The coin does not have a date on it. I am attaching pictures of the front/back. My dad (who is from Cuba) has had this coin for years and we are curious to know more about it. The coin has been in the box that it appears to have been distributed in and seems to be in perfect condition. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
